One Day in Kyoto: A Perfect Itinerary for a Scenic & Relaxed Trip

Kyoto is a city filled with breathtaking landscapes, traditional culture, and unique experiences. If you only have one day in Kyoto, this itinerary will take you through some of its most beautiful spots—from the serene Arashiyama Bamboo Grove to the illuminated Kimono Forest—with plenty of time to shop, relax, and soak in Kyoto's charm.

Arashiyama Bamboo Grove – A Breathtaking Natural Walk

Start your day at the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, one of Kyoto's most famous scenic spots. The towering bamboo stalks create a magical, otherworldly atmosphere, making it a must-visit for photography lovers. It can get very crowded, especially in peak seasons, but I visited in October, and it wasn't too bad. For fewer crowds, go early in the morning!

Kimono Rental – Experience Kyoto in Traditional Style

If you're planning to wear a kimono in Arashiyama, I highly recommend Kimono Rental AMUYA Arashiyama. It's a small, off-the-beaten-path shop away from the main tourist area, offering affordable prices and great service without the pressure you might feel at larger rental stores. Wearing a kimono here makes for beautiful photos among the bamboo and the surrounding area.

Sanjo-Dori Street & Katsuragawa River – A Relaxing Afternoon

After exploring Arashiyama, head to Sanjo-Dori Street, a lively shopping street filled with boutiques, cafes, and souvenir stores. This is a great place to take a break, grab a coffee, and enjoy Kyoto's modern side.

Not far from here, you'll find the Katsuragawa River, a peaceful riverside spot perfect for unwinding. Sit by the water, enjoy the view, and take a moment to soak in Kyoto's slower pace.

Kimono Forest – A Stunning Nighttime Light Display

As evening approaches, make your way to the Kimono Forest, a stunning installation of glowing kimono-patterned pillars near Arashiyama Station. It's beautiful during the day, but at night, when the pillars are illuminated, it becomes a magical sight. If you're wearing a kimono, this is another great photo spot!

Where to Stay – A Comfortable & Relaxing Hotel

For a great stay in Kyoto, I highly recommend Onyado Nono Kyoto Shichijo Natural Hot Spring. This hotel features traditional Japanese-style rooms, modern amenities, and an on-site hot spring (onsen), perfect for relaxing after a long day of exploring. Plus, the location is convenient for getting around Kyoto.

Final Thoughts

This one-day Kyoto itinerary is perfect for travelers who want to experience Kyoto's scenic and cultural highlights at a relaxed pace. Whether you're walking through the bamboo groves, shopping on Sanjo-Dori, or enjoying the glowing Kimono Forest at night, this itinerary offers a memorable and immersive Kyoto experience.
